3rd Edition ABC-RI Mariano Gago Memorial Lecture || July 2, 2024

The Algarve Biomedical Center Research Institute (ABC-Ri) is pleased to announce the 3rd edition of the ABC-Ri named lecture: Mariano Gago Memorial Lecture.
In this edition, we are honored to have as a speaker the distinguished Portuguese researcher Maria Mota, who has won several prestigious awards, including the Pfizer Prize and the Sanofi Pasteur Prize in the area of ​​scientific research, and the Pessoa Prize and the Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira Prize in the area of ​​culture and society.
Professor Maria Mota was involved in elucidating fundamental questions related to the interactions between the etiological agent of malaria and the human host.

Note on this named lecture: Professor Mariano Gago was one of the most influential Ministers for Science in Portugal (between 1995-2002, and 2005-2011). He was originally from Algarve and his work was a major driver to set the foundations for the current scientific culture of Portuguese Research and Portuguese scientists around the world. He was also key for the creation of what is today FCT, the National Research Council. This lecture is held in his memory, to remind us of the importance to unravel new challenges.
