Researchers honored by the Portuguese League Against Cancer during the “X Oncology Research Conference”

Researcher Joana Dias Apolónio has been awarded a research grant by the Portuguese League Against Cancer during the X Oncology Research Conference in Portugal. This recognition highlights her work on the project “hTERT promoter methylation as a biomarker for breast cancer detection in the blood”, which aims to develop new strategies for detecting breast cancer through blood-based biomarkers.

During the same ceremony, Mónica Fernandes received an honorable mention for her project, “Understanding and Profiling Resistance Mechanisms in Glioblastoma for Enhanced Therapeutic Approaches (UPHeal).” Her research focuses on understanding resistance mechanisms in glioblastoma, one of the most aggressive brain tumors, with the goal of improving therapeutic approaches.

These distinctions highlight the impact and excellence of oncology research in Portugal, reinforcing the importance of investing in science to advance knowledge and improve cancer treatments.

The Algarve Biomedical Center congratulates both researchers on their well-deserved recognition and wishes them continued success in their research endeavors.
