ABC-RI promotes Mariano Gago Memorial Lecture 2022

ABC-RI will promote on July 8th 2022, via Zoom, the inaugural Mariano Gago Lecture, an a annual event series that aims to honour the late Professor Mariano Gago, a highly influential Portuguese Minister of Science born in Algarve, that was one of the main driving forces to implement the current scientific culture and infrastructure in Portugal. 

The Mariano Gago Memorial Lecture 2022 aims to foster and inspire interaction between cutting-edge Basic Biological, Clinical and Translational research fields. At this first event we are honoured to host a talk by the Distinguished Professor Jens Juul Holst (University of Copenhagen), known for his scientific contributions in the field of diabetes/obesity. This talk will be followed-up by a Q&A session moderated by our in-house experts in the field, Dr. Joana Pestana, CHUA and Professor Leonor Faleiro, ABC-RI.

About the Speaker: Jens Juul Holst is a professor at the Department of Biomedical Sciences and at the same time affiliated with the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research. Jens is head of a research group that focuses on obesity and type 2 diabetes, especially with the aim of mapping hormonal disorders and the possibilities of treatment based on hormones.
