Outreach Activities
At the ABC-RI, we are committed to engaging with our community and beyond through a variety of outreach activities. Our initiatives aim to inspire, educate, and collaborate with diverse audiences, bringing the excitement of our research and discoveries closer to the public. From guided tours to educational visits and participatory events, we strive to make science accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Discover the ways in which we connect with the community and share our passion for knowledge.
ABC-RI Tours
Join us for the “ABC-RI Tours,” a unique opportunity to step inside the world of cutting-edge research. Our guided tours through the institute offer a behind-the-scenes look at our laboratories, facilities, and the innovative work our researchers undertake. Whether you’re a science enthusiast, a student, or just curious, the ABC-RI Tours provide an insightful and inspiring experience, showcasing the impact of our research on society and the environment. Tours are scheduled every other month or upon request. For more information and registration click here .
School Visits
Education is at the heart of our outreach efforts. Through school visits, we aim to spark curiosity and a love for science in young minds. Our interactive presentations, hands-on experiments, and Q&A sessions are designed to complement school curriculums, covering various scientific topics and research methodologies. By visiting schools, we hope to encourage students to explore scientific careers and become the next generation of researchers. We have an established collaboration with the high school of Silves with students visiting our institute for hands-on activities and researchers visiting the school for interactive lectures and workshops.

Solidarity Events
Solidarity and community support are key principles of our institute. We organize and participate in solidarity events that aim to raise awareness, funds, and support for various causes. These events provide a platform for us to engage with the community, share our scientific knowledge, and contribute to the greater good. For example, charity runs/walks “MAMA EM MOVIMENTO” and “MARCHA PELAS ATAXIAS” successfully raised significant funds which were fully donated to patient/disease associations.
Brain Awareness Week
Brain Awareness Week is a global campaign to foster public enthusiasm and support for brain science. Our institute proudly participates in this initiative, offering a range of activities such as school visits and solidary events. These events are designed to educate the public about the brain, our research projects, and the importance of brain health. By participating in Brain Awareness Week, we aim to demystify brain science and highlight the progress and possibilities in neurological research.
Science Fairs
Science fairs are a fantastic platform for us to showcase our research and engage with a wider audience. Our participation in these events allows us to present our findings, demonstrate experiments, and spark interest in science for the younger generation. For example the FIC.A – “Festival internacional de Ciência” provides a fun and educational experience for students and families understanding and appreciation of scientific research and its applications in everyday life.
Pint of Science
Pint of Science is an internation event that brings scientists to local pubs to discuss their latest research and findings in a relaxed and informal setting. Our researchers relish the opportunity to share their work with the public outside the traditional academic context. These events are perfect for anyone interested in science but in a more casual and social atmosphere. If you are interested to join us for a Pint of Science check here the next events.
